It's a tiny little shop but they do big business, so the potential is amazing. They also deal in paintings but it isn't terribly clear how they work that, whether they would make a high res. copy of the original and then give it back to me or what. The only piece I have worth selling right now is "Seventeenth" but there's not a remote chance in hell I'm ever letting a stranger have it, even for a healthy sum of money. But we'll see how selling off some photos goes first.

I'll update again tomorrow.

Some updates

No word yet on this week's sales but fingers are crossed due to the slight increase in holiday travelers milling around the gallery cluster in downtown. I'm aware it's a long shot but one can hope, can't he?

I've been struggling with some fresh additions to the "site." Namely an element in the Photography section that can take people to view my work that's been featured on michiganisamazing.dot.com, but they have some sort of block on blogger urls that prevents Trackbacks. Instead of being taken to the site you're taken to a white error page that states the url you're coming from is that of a spammer. There is a link on that page that allows you to bypass and move onward to see the destination if "this page is inaccurate" but it's an ugly process. Moreover their website bears no contact information to let me pose this problem to them so any sort of resolution can be reached. So until something on their end is hammered out I'll just have to stick with a minimalists Photography section.

A few Flickr mails have popped up in my account over there with wonderful compliments and questions from individuals who cited this blog as means of finding out about me, rather than just stumbling across my photos on Flickr itself. To those people: Thank you very much; I'm truly appreciate the kind words and inquiries and I promise I'll reply to each of you in due time.

Regarding content - I know I've been slacking at getting some updates on here but don't give up on this place yet. Things have been a little busy with organizing projects and portfolios offline so regrettably this spot's suffered. Also, some of the interpretations for "Four Corners" that have floated around before I created this space have finally been posted as well, so take a gander and leave a comment if you have anything to add.

I would also like to ask that if anyone comes across this spot and likes anything they see then please help me out by sharing the link with anyone else whom may be interested in something that's here. It would be greatly appreciated, honest.

Offline, business is slow. The tourist rates have dropped incrementally since Christmas so sales of my prints have dwindled significantly. It's a minor lull, however. In this part of Michigan tourism is pretty constant (weather permitting) but the type of people who come up here alternate frequently. During holiday times, summer, and early fall there are a lot of people around who come simply to see the sights and to do some shopping in the downtown areas. Although I myself am a bit reclusive and not one for crowds of people I can't help but come to love and look forward to those times of the year now. The rest of our tourism traffic consists of the people coming up here to enjoy the outdoors and/or to play hard. The skiers, snowboarders, fishermen, et al.; when they venture into town it's mostly to pick up supplies, not to browse the downtown shops. However, with Valentine's Day coming closer I'm becoming cautiously optimistic.

Pretty complete.

There will surely come some flak from the more web design-oriented people out there with the simplicity of my blog but my preemptive strike is simply: I have no purpose just yet to pay for a "real" piece of the web and currently I don't have the patience to sit down and play with templates to at least make this look more spiffy than it is. My time is spent focused on what this blog is ultimately about, and I'm happy with how the space to share my art has turned out. If there's anybody out there with the time and know-how that wants to make this place look every bit as professional as it's intent then I would gladly welcome volunteers. I'm just not in a position to pay anyone for that kind of design work.

That said, through and through this spot's done. What with so many tubes to choose from it's a hefty choice.

Film is a passion of mine and for quite some time my greatest ambition often came through as a statement: "I'm going to be Steven Spielberg when I grow up." Well I'm "grown up" and the truth of the matter is, despite some embers of that filmmaking passion, I'm over it. At least over the concept that the whole Hollywood thing is for me, anyway. So short films, quick docs and some music videos still fly free from my editing station at times but none of those will be featured here. There are other places to view those and this just won't be one of them.

I write more than anything else (sleep aside, it's quite possible I write more than I breathe on any given day) but no, this isn't a place for that either. I may float a subtle post or link out here if I ever get something published, however.

So to keep things simple this blog (I'm not fond of that word, but it's the truth...this is just a blog with pictures) will be split up into three sections: Photography, Painting, and the portion that you're reading at this very moment. It's here that I'll share news, events, schedules (if or when they arise). In Photography and Painting I'll display some of my work from time to time and talk a little about how certain tricks were achieved without getting too technical (if I get technical at all).

I've been painting and taking photos for years but I'm still and will forever be just a beginner. Whether they are pieces of pottery, contemporary paintings, stereotypical landscape or animal paintings, wooden sculptures of animals or little automobiles, bead jewelry, or photographic prints of sunsets, birds, deer, sand, lighthouses, and iron ore transport ships. You can find these things anywhere and everywhere. These items are well-thought out and beautifully executed. There is little doubt that the artist whose name is printed or inscribed on these goods are talented, experienced individuals.

My personal mission is the same of any upstart or aspiring artist: to bring something fresh to the medium. A slightly different breed of coloring, typically unused angles, so on and so forth. That being said it's inevitable that the standard item will find its way into my portfolio from time to time, but I hope all who view what I create find something that interests them, inspires them, or sparks some old memories or dreams within.

Everything shown here is my own property unless otherwise stated, in which case I will make great effort to cite the source or inspiration. All of my personal works displayed are copyrighted and can not be used in any circumstance without my permission or a trackback of some kind to the original posting of the item in question.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy what's to come.
